F scott fitzgerald and Tom from the Great Gatsby?

I know that Fitzgerald was an alcoholic so i'm wondering the similarities between Fitzgerald and Tom. I don't think that Fitzgerald was a woman beater like Tom was, but I don't really know. Anyone have some in-depth information on Fitzgerald's personal life?
